  • 01·The brief

    Shelter in open terrain

A small retreat in the desert terrain of AlUla — a place to stay that belongs to the landscape it stands in. The brief asked for quiet: low volumes, shaded courts, and rooms that face the rock rather than the road.

  • 02·The approach

    Rammed earth and local stone

Local stone, rammed earth, timber and bronze give the retreat its material identity; the volumes follow the terrain's contours and open into sheltered courts. Every space is connected to the landscape it shelters from.

  • 03·The result

    A retreat the terrain accepts

The completed retreat operates as a small hospitality commission and is published as a case study with the operator's consent. It was cited for Hospitality & Landscape in The Terrain Architecture Citation 2025.
