  • 01·The brief

A low house against the sky

A coastal residence in Mallorca, kept low and horizontal so the horizon carries the composition. The plan gathers the rooms around courtyards and terraces that face the sea, so the house lives outside as much as in.

  • 02·The approach

    Limestone, lime plaster, oak

Warm limestone, lime plaster and natural oak give the house its quiet; walls are thick, openings are deep, and the terraces step down toward the water. The palette was chosen to hold the Mediterranean light without reflecting it.

  • 03·The result

    A house the landscape keeps

The completed house sits within its site as if it had always been there — the terraces have taken the weather, and the landscape has begun to grow against the walls, which is the outcome the practice hoped for. It was cited for Residential Architecture in The Coastal Design Citation 2024.
